We’re excited to share our second song from ANKH LiveLittle Lies!  It’s part of the origin story of Shelley “Traction” Jones.

While Shelly is an eternal optimist, her optimism was tested when her beloved mother died in her arms.

It all started with the diagnosis of cancer at a local clinic and the almost offhanded comment that her mother had months to live.

Taking care of her mother became a full-time job that she had to somehow manage while working at her other full-time job.  During the last weeks, it became the only thing she did.

It was a difficult scenario, but she recognized that many people had faced the same situation. She was determined to help her mother live as well as possible with the knowledge that final peace was rapidly approaching for her.

Shelly was raised to believe that telling the truth was simply mandatory regardless of how bad things got. But what tested her optimism was the question her mother asked many times a day during their final weeks together: “Am I going to be okay?”

In one sense, she knew her mother would be okay.  But she could see the fear of the unknown in her eyes, so she told her what she knew she wanted to hear.

It may seem like a small thing, but breaking her pledge to always tell the truth nearly broke Shelly.

Years after her mother passed, she was able to come to terms with what she had done.  Her optimism returned, and she gained a healthy dose of pragmatism.

Her new viewpoint on life was one of the things that made ending her relationship with Scott “Splinter” Owens especially difficult.
